Granite Countertop FAQs

Here you will find some of the most frequently asked questions we receive about granite countertops. For more specific questions, please contact us today!

We work with customers throughout the Phoenix Metro area as well as Northern Arizona.
Slabs are full pieces of stone that are best suited to large scale projects or projects requiring a great deal of custom work. We fabricate slabs in marble, granite, quartz, onyx, soapstone, limestone and travertine. Remnants are leftover pieces from a full slab, varying in size from very small to large enough for a countertop. Remnant inventory changes constantly, so we recommend that you call or visit one of our locations to view the current selection.
As with any construction, replacing countertops will create dust. We try to keep the dust to a minimum but I would personally remove the drawers and clean out the cabinets before we install the tops. We recommend commencing on any painting projects after the granite is installed.
Usually, I would say it is very important to view your granite prior to our cutting and fabricating. Since granite is a natural product, some parts of it will vary or be a different color than the sample. At your request, we can email a layout prior to fabrication or you can come in to layout the slab with our experts in person (no extra charge!)
Generally speaking, bacteria grows in warm, moist, dark places. Granite is cool and dry. Bacteria is more likely to grow in formica tops because they have a particle board sub-base, especially with the moisture from a dishwasher constantly getting trapped.
Granite cleans very easily with warm water, soap and a soft cloth. Roman Granite INC. seals the countertops at the factory with a premium sealer, so you will not need to re-apply sealer for several years, (but you can if choose to do so for extra piece of mind).
If oil is left on the countertop for an extended period of time it will stain the affected area. Acidic solutions ranging from fruit juices to cleaners can etch the surface if applied for prolonged periods of time, even after sealer is applied. Granite is a natural stone and under normal circumstance and daily use the sealer will inhibit stains from happening in indoor applications but any prolonged exposure to oils, acids or chemicals may result in staining in that area.
